In October, 1996 I was in Tokyo on my penultimate flight before joining the Dreamflight team of helpers on the annual flight to Orlando.
I raised £60 by singing the song "Sailing" - with the help of my crew - in a local Karaoke bar called "the truck".
When I finished my piece, I was questioned by a colleague, Captain Jerry Page, about the reason for my fundraising.
I explained that I was about to join the crew of Time & Tide in Rio, for the rest of the BT Global Challenge race around the world, and would be seeking to raise money for Dreamflight. He mentioned that he was a song-writer, and would put pen to paper. He wrote the following words on the back of his weather chart on his flight back to London. There is a river
Runs to the sea
And
there's an ocean
Waiting
for me
And
there's a fair wind
To
carry me
Into
the silver night
To
where I want to be
Time and tide
Time and tide
For every one a time
For every one a tide
There
may be storm clouds
There
may be rain
And
there'll be hard times
Sorrow
and pain
Sure
there'll be laughter
And
there'll be love
And
through the darkest night
The
shining stars above
Time and tide
Time and tide
For every one a time
For every one a tide
This
is my moment
This
is my tide
No-one
can tell you
We
never tried
This
is my ocean
This
is my crew
And
from the silver night
I'll
sail on home to you
Time and tide
Time and tide
For every one a time
For every one a tide
This is my time
This
is my tide
